Fluid Dynamics

With the help of Ansys Workbench or openFOAM, we can perform flow calculations on the models. Here you can see a novel vehicle design that students of the htw saar have created in the Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modules.

For the vehicles, we can thus perform virtual wind tunnel tests to improve the flow characteristics.

After the geometry is created, the aircraft body is meshed and powerful numerical grids (discretization) are created from the models.

After flow optimization, the models can be printed by us and tested in our in-house wind tunnel. Here we compare the measured values with the results of the CFD calculation.

You can see here the 3D models and the wind tunnel Eifler Bauart, with which we can measure lift and drag coefficients of the aircraft models.

We also use large-eddy turbulence models (LES) to clarify complex flow problems, for example in wind turbines.
