Particle systems are important for a wide variety of technical applications. Among other things, they are of particular importance in battery technology. We create Matlab models for battery systems and teach this knowledge in the module battery system technology. Here we work with the students on chemical, reactive particle systems.

For the description of particle systems we use the Euler/Euler multiphase model of openFOAM. However, there is also the possibility to simulate concrete particle systems directly with the program Blender.

Here you can see the reactive Euler/Euler fixed bed simulation of a grate firing plant for biomass. Here, the combustion takes place at the solid, as well as directly as a heterogeneous reaction within the packed bed.
